Thekua- Fun Fact

Thekua or Khajuria or Thikari  is a dry sweet. It is very popular in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.Thekua is a main prasad (offering to god) in the Chhath puja.

Place of origin    :India(Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand)
Course                :Dessert
Main Ingredients:Wheat flour, sugar or jaggery, ghee, cardamom




Ingredients for Thekuas


  • 2 Cup (250 gram) Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Grated Coconut
  • 1 Cup (100 Gram) Jaggery 
  • 2 Spoon Ghee
  • 5-6 Cardamom (Elaichi)
  • 1/2 Cup Water for dough kneading 
  • Oil for fry 


Dough Preparation


  • For Dough kneading - Need to melt Jaggery in warm water
  • Heat Pan
  • Add Jaggery in Pan
  • Add 1/2 Cup Water & Stir a min.
  • Within a min Jaggery will melt in warm water
  • Jaggary dissolved now - Warm Jaggery water is ready
  • Filter Jaggery syrup in a bowl 
  • Filtered Jaggery water 
  • Add 2 spoon Ghee in warm Jaggery water
  • Keep this syrup for few min so ghee will melt down
  • Ghee melted in Jaggery water & its ready for dough Kneading
  • Shift wheat flour in Big bowl
  • Add Fennel Seed (saunf)
  • Add Grated Coconnut
  • Add Cardamom (elaichi)
  • Mix..Mix..Mix
  • Add Jaggery water little little & make hard dough
  • Dough is ready to make Thekua


Making & frying Thekuas 


  • Take small lumps & give the thekuas shape
  • Using sabji chilni here we are giveing the design
  • Prepare another thekua in same manner
  • Thekuas are ready - Lets fry these
  • Oil should be medium warm for fry
  • Place thekuas in warm Oil
  • Flip both side of thekuas & fry till golden brown
  • Avoid to fry in high flame else it will be reddish outside & not cooked inside
  • Thekuas fried Golden brown - Take them out
  • Take them out

         - Prepare another thekua in same manner


         - Thekuas are ready - Let's fry these


         - Oil should be medium warm for fry


         - Place thekuas in warm Oil

         - Avoid to fry in high flame else it will be reddish outside & not cooked inside


         - Thekuas fried Golden brown 


         - Take them out



          - Thekuas are ready for serve
